Downeast Lakes Land Trust Internships – 2 positions

Downeast Lakes Land Trust is based in Grand Lake Stream, Maine. We protect lakeshores, improve fish and wildlife habitats, provide public recreation opportunities, offer educational programs, and support jobs in the forest and on the water. We are dedicated to the Downeast economy and environment.

This internship will provide broad exposure and experience assisting the work of a community-based conservation group engaged in landscape-scale forest conservation and management. The interns will assist with implementing habitat restoration projects, conduct wildlife and habitat monitoring and perform maintenance of hiking trails, campsites and geocaches on the Community Forest. The interns will also assist with DLLT events and programs.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate or graduate student in a natural resources related field, with ability to work independently, excellent communication and computer skills, and experience working outdoors. Experience with GPS/map and compass, trail maintenance, and wilderness medical training desirable. 

  • Ability to launch and drive motorboats is helpful.
  • Basic building skills are preferred.
  • Personal 4 wheel drive vehicle is preferred.
  • Chainsaw experience is preferred.
  • Willing to obtain chainsaw certification. 

Details:

DLLT is seeking 2 interns for eight weeks in the summer 2024. Start and end dates are negotiable. The intern will receive $18 per hour and is expected to work 40 hours per week. Housing allowance is not provided but we can provide options in the area.
