Snowmobile & ATV

Snowmobiles at Farm Cove

Downeast Lakes Land Trust is committed to public recreational access. We value our partnerships with the Grand Lake Snowmobile Club, Crossroads Snowmobile Club, and the Grand Lake Stream ATV Club. Each helps maintain recreational trails on the Downeast Lakes Community Forest and nearby. These recreational trails are multi-purpose, also used by pedestrians, horses, dogsleds, and bicycles.

Snowmobile trails provide opportunities to travel for miles through the winter woods. Both state ITS trails and local club trails provide access to the community forest. These interconnected trails are a result of partnerships between landowners, snowmobile clubs, towns, and the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands.

ATV trails provide designated routes for summer travel, and connections to trail systems on surrounding lands. DLLT also allows use of ATVs on gravel roads throughout the Downeast Lakes Community Forest. DLLT extends this privilege to all users of registered ATVs (as defined by the State of Maine), who are expected to follow Maine State laws, to treat the land with respect and care, and to ride without endangering others or causing damage to trails. Please note that ATV trails are closed during mud season, and may be closed during timber harvesting and other land management activities. Any time your use is causing ruts or erosion, please stop and come back another time.
