Throughout July and August, Explorations & Adventures is a free, weekly educational series for children ages 10-16, on Thursdays from 9:30 am – 12 pm. These programs are free, and all ages are welcome! Interested participants should come to the School Building in Grand Lake Stream ready for outdoor activities, rain or shine! Some of the activities require pre-registration, as space may be limited. Each week will consist of a focused topic. July 4 – Tubing Grand Lake Stream! (1:30 PM) – As part of the “Grand Lake Stream, America” festivities, join us at the GLS School Building at 1:30 pm to go for a tube ride down the stream!
July 11 – Town Garden Building – Help DLLT staff and volunteers construct new garden beds at the GLS Guides Memorial.
July 18 – Fly Fishing on Grand Lake Stream – Join Registered Maine Guide Todd Cushing for a beginner’s course in fly fishing on one of Maine’s famous streams.
July 25 – Trail Construction: Pineo Peaks – After participants helped map out a potential route last year, join DLLT staff and volunteers to begin groundwork on the future “Pineo Peaks Trail.” Runs until 3 pm, and kids should bring a lunch and water.
August 1 – Forestry 101 – Join DLLT Managing Forester Ernest Carle for an in-depth look into the career of a forester, and help lay out a FIG plot in the community forest.
August 8 – Lake Fishing for Smallies – A favorite summertime catch, smallmouth bass put up quite a fight. Head out to the coves on West Grand Lake to try your luck. This event is space limited, and interested participants must pre-register!
August 15 – Day-long Canoe Trip – Paddle down Big Musquash Stream and navigate the islands and coves of Big Lake with DLLT staff. This event is space limited, and interested participants must pre-register!
