Downeast Lakes Land Trust is sponsoring a count circle for the 118th Christmas Bird Count!  From December 14 through January 5 each year, tens of thousands of volunteers throughout the Americas brave the winter weather to take part in one of the oldest citizen science projects in the country.  Organized by The Audubon Society, Audubon and other organizations use bird data collected in this long-running wildlife census to assess the health of bird populations, and to help guide conservation action.  To read more about the Christmas Bird Count, visit Christmas Bird Count’s website.

DLLT’s participation date is Friday, December 15th, with most of the count area located in the 55,000-acre Downeast Lakes Community Forest.  Head into the community forest and help document the many species of birds that call the Downeast Lakes region home!  If you are interested in participating in this unique event, please contact DLLT Education and Outreach Manager Colin Brown for more details.  Interested participants must pre-register for this exciting volunteer opportunity.  Dust off your binoculars and join us!
