Throughout July and August, Downeast Lakes Land Trust offers free, educational activities and lessons for children ages 10-16. Thursdays, from 9:30 am – 12 pm, bring the kids to the Grand Lake Stream School Building ready for outdoor activities, rain or shine! Each week features a specific topic that builds appreciation and awareness of the natural history of the Downeast Lakes region. Test your wayfinding skills on DLLT’s new Map & Compass Course.
July 12 – Trailblazing Pineo Mountains (9:30 am – 3 pm)
Bushwhacking at it’s finest – Learn how to read the landscape and put your compass skills to the test!
July 19 – Owl Box Building & Placement (9:30 am – 2 pm)
Learn how to build an owl box, and hang it up in the community forest to support local populations.
July 26 – Fly Fishing on Grand Lake Stream
Join Registered Maine Guide Todd Cushing, and learn all the basics of fly fishing on this legendary waterway.
August 2 – Mapmaking
Join Maine cartographer Jane Crosen, learn mapmaking skills, and create your own map of Grand Lake Stream.
August 9 – Lake Fishing
Join DLLT staff as we head in search of warm-water smallies! Bring your own rod and reel.
August 16 and 17 – Canoe Camping on Pocumcus Lake
The end-of-summer voyage – sure to be an awesome trip! Space is limited – Parents must pre-register in advance.
