Throughout July and August, Downeast Lakes Land Trust offers free, educational activities and lessons for children ages 6-10. Tuesdays, from 9:30 am – 12 pm, bring the kids to the Grand Lake Stream School Building ready for outdoor activities, rain or shine! Each week features a specific topic that builds appreciation and awareness of the natural history of the Downeast Lakes region. Join DLLT Education and Outreach Manager Colin Brown for a birding expedition in the community forest.

We’ll travel to Princeton to meet with local beekeeper Bill Kolodnicki to learn all about honeybees.
July 17 – Wabassus Mountain Hike
Climb to the top of one of the highest points in the community forest!
July 24 – Island Boat Trip (9:30 – 2 pm)
Join DLLT for a trip to an island in Big Lake. Space is limited: Parents must pre-register.
July 31 – Berry Picking
Head to some of the best blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry patches in the area – bring a bucket!
August 7 – Nature Journaling
Practice your creative writing skills in a woodland setting, and let nature be your muse.
August 14 – Stream Exploration
Wade through beautiful Grand Lake Stream, and learn all about the fish, insects, birds, and amphibians that call it home.
