Morning Bird Hunt + Afternoon Fly Fishing

For beginner sportsmen/women under the age of 18.

Pre-registration is required! Sign up for one or both parts of the event by contacting Sarah Cote: scote@downeastlakes.org or by phone (207) 796-2100. Participants must have parental approval and all pertinent hunting and fishing licenses.

Meet at 8am at the Fire Station in Grand Lake Stream. This 2-part event invites children to learn about and practice upland bird hunting and fly fishing. Instruction, lunch, and guiding included and FREE! Extra flyrods and shotguns are available upon request.

Licensing Requirements

  • Hunters under the age of 16 must possess a junior license, and those 16 and up need an adult license.
  • A valid Maine fishing license is required for anyone 16 years of age or older. *Licenses are available at the Pine Tree Store in Grand Lake Stream.

Morning Bird Hunt

Your child will learn how to identify game birds, where to hunt them, and group hunting safety before heading to the woods on a guided hunt. A hunters safety course needs to be completed before attending this morning session.

Lunch will be provided between the morning and afternoon sessions.

Afternoon Fly Fishing

Instruction will be provided on how to cast, target specific fish, and other secrets of the stream before going off in small groups with a local guide to practice their new skills.
