Apple Harvest Day - Autumn Harvest Festival Saturday

When

10/01/2022
10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Come join us for a day of apple fun! Whether you come for the entire time or a portion of the day, you’ll find something to do and enjoy.

Apple Picking and Storytime Adventure 10am-noon

Meet in Grand Lake Stream at the Storybook Trail (214 Milford Rd) at 10am. This family friendly event will begin with a walk through the woods to read a story titled “Apple Picking Time” by Michele Benoit Slawson. After, we will stop to pick apples right from the trailhead. Wear walking shoes and bring bags or baskets for picking apples which can then be used for the afternoon activities!

Take a break during the time between the walk and the harvest activities. Bring a picnic lunch or you could get something from the Pine Tree Store.

Apple Harvest Activities 1pm-3pm

Meet at the Grand Lake Stream Fire Station (6 Tanbark St) at 1pm. We plan to have all kinds of apple fun! The traditional cider pressing will allow everyone to try samples or even bring home a jar of your own apple cider. We’re bringing out the slingshot again to let some apples fly!

At 1:30, Edgar Evenkeel will present a pomology workshop. Learn about the biology and physiology of fruit trees and their ecological function in the landscape.  We will talk about the botanical vocabulary used to describe different parts of fruit trees, why they matter, and what they do. This workshop is perfect for those small backyard orchard growers, those new to growing fruit trees, or the generally curious.

Edgar Evenkeel is a Certified Arborist with a B.S. Degree in Plant, Soils & Insect Science from UMass Amherst. He has years of experience teaching people about orchard care and fruit trees. He enjoys getting to share his passion with others. He lives in Surry Maine with his partner Liz and their dog Dagger.

There will be games and activities, kids crafts, a donut eating contest and more. There is something for everyone to enjoy. Come out for the entire time or for a part of this Apple Harvest Day!
