Downeast Lakes Land Trust is pleased to announce that the Trust has placed an offer on 137 Milford Road, Grand Lake Stream, Maine.  The Trust plans to transform the large home on 16.48 acres in the center of town into its new headquarters.  A planning application will be submitted to rezone the main building from residential use to commercial use.

The offer was made in mid-May and has been accepted.  Provided the inspections and financing can be arranged, it is hoped that the real estate transaction will close by the end of June.

The Trust purchased 214 Milford Road in 2018 in the hopes of developing a new headquarters building.  Although plans were in development, the Covid pandemic and rising building costs caused the Trust Board of Directors to reconsider their plans for a new building.  137 Milford Road with its large main building and several outbuildings, will offer plenty of space for the staff and myriad of Trust activities.

The Trust plans to keep the parcel of land at 214 Milford Road, Grand Lake Stream as it provides access to the DLLT trail network and may, in the future, be developed for other Trust purposes.

DLLT looks forward to announcing plans for the redevelopment of 137 Milford this summer.  A fundraising committee is being organized to raise funds for the renovation.  Donations in kind and volunteers will also be sought as the plans crystallize.  As more information becomes available, the Trust will post further details.
